Create an automation rule

In the top left-hand corner of the main dashboard screen, click the Manage icon: .
On the Manage panel, click Automation .
On the right-hand side of the Automation Rules screen, click the Automation Rule icon: .
Depending on the how the automation rule is to be triggered, drag one of the triggers from the Select Triggers menu on the left of the screen to the studio canvas.

Click on the Configure icon within the stream node to configure the trigger:. The configuration options depend on the type of trigger:

Use an Entity Stream when you want to continuously monitor the data that is received for a specific entity or entities, and trigger an event if attributes associated with this entity meet specific conditions. For example, trigger an event if the air-temperature has exceeded 35°C AND the humidity is greater than or equal 80%.

Setting	Description
Domain	Select the functional domain that contains the required entities, for example Parking or Lighting.
Event Source	Select an Event Trigger from this domain, for example Parking Space.
Filters	Select one of the following options to indicate which entities to select: All Entities - select all entities of this type. Specific Entities - select one or more entities from the list. Region - select all entities of the chosen type within a geographical region.
Rules	Add one or more rules to be applied to the selected entity or entities. If more than one rule is specified then they will be logically ANDed together. Each rule consists of the following: Attribute - select an attribute relating to the chosen entity type. Condition - select a comparison condition for the rule. Value - specify a value that the attribute is to be compared with. Depending on the attribute type this may be a Boolean true/false value or a numerical value.

Use a Scheduled Stream when you want to trigger an event to occur at a specific time or a specific frequency, e.g. at 09:00 every weekday.

Select one of the following time intervals from the Select Cron Tab list:

Interval	Description
Minutes	Select how frequently the event should be triggered in minutes. For example, 'On every 5 minutes' means that the event will be triggered continuously every 5 minutes.
Hourly	Select how frequently the event should be triggered in hours. For example, 'On every 1 hour' means that the event will be triggered continuously every 1 hour.
Daily	Select how frequently the event should be triggered in days (e.g. every 2 days or every working day), and the time that the event should be triggered on these days.
Weekly	If the event is to be scheduled weekly, then select the days (Monday-Sunday), and the time that the event should be triggered on these days.
Monthly	Select one of the following options: On the selected month days - select a specific day of the month (e.g. the 2nd), the monthly schedule (e.g. every 3 months), and the time that the event should be triggered on this day. On the selected week day - select a specific day of the week (e.g. the first Monday), the monthly schedule (e.g. every 3 months), and the time that the event should be triggered on this day.
Custom	Specify your own custom schedule period using the standard Cron time string format in the CRON Expression field. For example, "30 * * * " can trigger the event at 30 minutes past the hour, every hour. "/15 * * * " can trigger every 15 minutes. "0 13 * 1" can trigger at 1pm every Monday.

Use an Event Stream when you want to react to a discrete event that has been generated by the Quantela platform or received from an external system. For example, the video analytics system has sent an event to indicate that a road-traffic incident has been detected.

Setting	Description
Select Event	Select the event type that will be used to trigger this automation rule. All event types are available, regardless of the domain. These events may be generated by the Quantela platform (e.g. from the entity stream), or they may originate from an external system (via an inbound 'event' adapter).
Region	Select a pre-configured geographical region to filter the source event.
Rules	Add one or more rules to be applied to the source event. If more than one rule is specified then they will be logically ANDed together. Each rule consists of the following: Attribute - select an attribute relating to the source event. Condition - select a comparison condition for the rule. Value - specify a value that the attribute is to be compared with. Depending on the attribute type this may be a Boolean true/false value or a numerical value.

Use a CEP Stream when you want to trigger an event if one or more other events have occurred within a specific time period and/or within a specific radius. For example, if a security alert is received while the crowd density is high within 100m then we may want to trigger a Public Emergency event.

Setting	Description
Select Events	Select one or more event types that will be used to trigger this automation rule. All event types are available, regardless of the domain. These events may be generated by the Quantela platform (e.g. from the entity stream), or they may originate from an external system (via an inbound 'event' adapter).
Rules	Add one or more rules to be applied to each source event. If more than one rule is specified then they will be logically ANDed together. Each rule consists of the following: Attribute - select an attribute relating to the source event. Condition - select a comparison condition for the rule. Value - specify a value that the attribute is to be compared with. Depending on the attribute type this may be a Boolean true/false value or a numerical value.
Within Time	Specify a time period in seconds. If all of the selected events occur within this time period then the CEP event will be triggered.
Within Radius	Specify a geographical radius in metres. If all of the selected events occur within this radius then the CEP event will be triggered. If both time and radius are specified then both conditions must be met.

Drag one of the event types from the Apply Events menu on the left of the screen to the studio canvas.

Click on the Configure icon within the event-type node to configure the event type: and enter the following configuration parameters:

Setting	Description
Criticality	Select one of the following to specify the importance of the event: Low Medium High
Description	Enter a textual description.
Properties	Set a value for each of the event source properties of the event. The options in Select Type are as follows: Variable - Select any of the other event source properties as its value from Select Value. Constant - Enter a fixed value in Select Value.

Enter the following details in the Create Rule panel:

Setting	Description
Enter Rule Name	Provide a descriptive name for the event type that will be shown in the list of event types on the Automation screen. Note It must be 3-50 alphanumeric and underscore characters only.
Description	Enter a textual description that will be shown in the list of event types on the Automation screen.
Status	Specify whether the event type is to be Active or Inactive. If it is set to inactive then the event will not be triggered until it is set back to active.

When you have configured the automation rule, click Create to save it.
